The initial vision for Liberty was to empower women spiritually, financially, and physically through business seminars, free medical expertise and dynamic life-changing preaching. About 27,000 people attended the first event held at the TransAmusement Park Ibadan, Nigeria. Some 500 volunteers, mostly women, anchored (pioneered?) the event held in 1999. The women were radically empowered and the volunteers became eager to be used. So what next? The National Overseer of the New Covenant Church, Nigeria was keen to harness the newly liberated “work force” and suggested that the women become involved in the villages of Oyo State as church planters, educators and medical personnel. So began the work of LIBERTY - making people free.
THE VILLAGE MANDATE
After prayer the UK & Nigerian Teams felt that their many highly skilled volunteers could work together to radically impact rural communities with the transforming love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Their strategy was to provide five facilities:
Clean Water; Comprehensive Health Care; Education; Agricultural Empowerment; and Pastoral Care. Thus empowering entire communities and setting them free from disease, ignorance and oppression.
Although Liberty is anchored by the Covenant Women of the New Covenant Church, the LIBERTY TEAMS are multi-denominational with members of both sexes and all ages. The team members are highly skilled and include doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical personnel, engineers, architects, businessmen and women, teachers, lawyers and secretaries.
Liberty is a charity registered under the New Covenant Church (1004343). Since the village work began in 2003 we have impacted some 80 villages in Oyo State, Nigeria with our five-fold mission.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to reach other African villages so that communities may be transformed body, soul and mind – that communities have access to basic amenities in order to live healthy lives and fulfill their destiny in God.
